stasi and the city

i used to write very frequently, mostly personal rhetoric that served more to be cathartic than anything else…chapters of my life since i stopped writing have been closed, reopened, dog eared, stricken through, burned…and subsequently republished. life goes on, only now…i wear stronger reading glasses.

i’ve connected with some old friends, with both fond and forgettable memories…found friends i’d made an immediate connection with on the first meeting and lost contact with of whom i’m looking forward to keeping on learning about and building “remember when…” memories with…and others still who i’ve always had a connection with even when months and years have passed between us

i’ve enjoyed going through my old high school friends profiles and seeing how they’ve remained impossibly beautiful, inside and out and seeing how they interact with one another on here as if 20 years never happened…being military brats in a foreign country…and 15-18 years old in a country with no drinking age…well, there was a bond that probably only our little niche’ will ever really understand…we had no american commercials…no american tv shows…all the big features got to us 6 mos late…when we traveled for our school, we were americans, but it was never advertised…we had real bomb threats, not the ones called in bc someone didn’t study for finals…we had classes on where and how to conceal that we were american…how to search under cars for wires that shouldn’t be there…

and 20 years later living in america…all i see and read and hear is about how “un-american” our present administration is…when the election was going on i wrote this blog…i read it again tonight and nothing has changed my non-partisan views…sans perhaps my recent “layoff” and my two and 1/2 hour wait at the unemployment office today…(of which i got hit on, but that’s a “whole nuther” (<–for mika) blog)

being unemployed sucks…being unemployed when there is no one with any money to hire you sucks balls…added to that, my kids dad was also laid off from a considerably high paying position due to a merger…they will be fine, his wife does well…but it just serves to remind me that no one is safe…even those on top…unless your a talk-show host pulling in $400m while his 1800 underlings get laid off, but i digress…all this of course, is all obama's fault…right? in a matter of 7 mos this man has managed to bankrupt us, un-and-under insure us and put us in such a state of panic that we will be back to the dark ages by the end of his administration…never mind, he will also aid the terrorists that want to destroy this country, i mean just his name is telling enough of that…he's also going to turn us all into socialists with his humanitarian efforts regarding health care and to add insult to injury may even one day send a child who's parents illegally smuggled him or her in as a baby to college that may one day cure cancer or develop a nobel prize winning "cure" for our economic demise…bullshit.

focus on the present. we are in a recession, one that is only going to be rerun again just as we are on the upswing…and this didn't happen in the last 7 mos…obama was not sworn in and suddenly a recession genie came down and granted all the right-winged conservatives 3 wishes…ok, well maybe for Rush, but i'm sure there was some form of barbiturate involved. *snicker*

this little pot of economic sludge has been brewing for well over the last decade…and every one has had a stir and added their own special ingredient…every elected official in this republic of ours has had their turn at the kettle…carter…clinton…and yes, bush too had just as much to do with the predatory lending and the banks regulatory 'lapses' as did anyone, if not only by greed but simple incompetence…where you will argue that bush tried to 'fix' what his predecessors caused, i will ask you to also speak on 1$ trillion dollar deficit from beginning wars in the middle east with no plan to repay them…for all the mockery surrounding ol' willie's turn at wheel, he at least left bush with a little spending money…even gorbachev decided taking the proverbial bus to work was more fiscally responsible and fired the chauffeur…

i made a friend recently who warned me about his FB page and that his circle of friends were very outspoken and political…

politics do not offend me…opinions, let me rephrase that, educated opinions don't offend me…what i find patently offensive is the "its not me, its him'' finger pointing, with no action…complain about it…bitch and moan…get paid handsomely and ridiculously for it…but tell me what you are going to contribute to fix it…
